Temples and Tastes of Tamil nadu

Day 1: Trichy to Kumbakonam enroute visiting Chidambaram and Gangaikondacholapuram.

We pick you up from your hotel in Trichy and drive towards the town of Chidambaram which is known for the Thillai Nataraja Temple. Chidambaram Nataraja Temple was built during the 11th century and is one of the most celebrated Shaivite Temples in South India. Further drive towards Gangaikondacholapuram temples, Gangaikonda Cholapuram is regarded as the reproduction of Brihadisvara Temple that was built by Rajaraja Chola, father of Rajendra Chola. Gangai Konda Cholapuram was erected to outshine the temple made by the father. The temple is renowned for having the biggest Shivalingam in the Southern part of India. Finally reach Kumbakonam for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Kumbakonam to thanjavur

After breakfast get driven towards Thanjavur. Arrive and checkin hotel. Later visit Brihadishvara (or Brhadisvara) temple was constructed between c. 995 and 1025 CE using Chola war booty and tribute from Sri Lanka. The temple was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Reaching a height of 63 metres, it is the tallest temple building in India. The entire rectangular complex measures approximately 140 x 75 metres and is surrounded by a wall with regular interior niches. Day 3: Thanjavur to Chettinadu (Karaikudi)

This mind-blowing temple demands a second visit and the sculptures are so mesmerizing that they will make our eye balls glued to them. This marvelous piece of art is dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and God Siva and it is believed to be the place where they tied the knot. The golden lotus tank inside the temple adds feather to the hat of Meenakshi. Another exclusive feature of this temple is the thousand pillar hall and the musical pillars.
